It is time we turn our attention to sexual violence and recognize how various institutions and industries contribute to and unintentionally allow various forms of sexual violence to be perpetrated. Examples include families, faith communities, universities and college campuses, hospitals and medical facilities, sports and athletics, the entertainment industry, workplaces, the military, and many other sectors.  There is emerging consensus that there are many conditions within these institutions and industries that contribute to a range of sexual behaviors from harassment to violence.  However, these same institutions and industries can make different decisions, create different policies, and set new standards to prevent the perpetration of this range of sexual violence.

Identifying risk and protective factors on multiple levels, such as individual, relationship/family, institutional, community and societal, can serve as prevention strategies focusing on how to respond to violence and prevent reoffending.  It is essential we recognize the importance of looking at risk and protective factors for perpetration, if the goal is stopping sexual abuse before anyone is harmed.  Awareness and prevention efforts must be informed by understanding those who perpetrate sexual abuse, the range of behaviors they engage in combined with a deeper understanding of the conditions in which sexual violence takes place.  My experience is grounded in the exploration of lived experience, research, policies, and environmental changes used in institutions and industries to share about the impact of these efforts on awareness and prevention.

MISSION STATEMENT

To inform all individuals, agencies, institutions, and churches on issues related to sexual violence, sexual offending, sex trafficking, and other related deviant sexual acts.

VISION

I stand committed to educate my community and end all forms of sexual violence, while advocating for the rights and needs of victims of sexual abuse and assault. My goal is to create a future free from sexual violence and I believe it is my purpose to help every individual realize their value and worth through the lens of God.

I believe all forms of bias, prejudice and oppression obstruct the mission of ending sexual violence. All forms of oppression create injustices and hardships. This can include both increased risks for being harmed and compounded barriers in getting help and justice. I will not tolerate the marginalization of any individual or group of color, those living in poverty, immigrants, women, religion, or people with disabilities.

I am committed to creating a world where diversity is celebrated, all people are treated with dignity and respect and all people have full autonomy over their own bodies and sexual expression.

I will use my voice and privilege to mobilize change that will result in communities free from sexual violence and oppression, and grounded in the faith and hope of Jesus Christ.

I call on all individuals, organizations, and leaders to join me in shaping the future through love.
